While Lamborghini have produced an SUV before in the form of the LM002 or Rambo Lambo, yesterday in Barangaroo Sydney they launched their first modern SUV called the Urus as part of the Australian Launch. If you’re unsure at the term, it’s pronounced “Oo-Ris”. Lamborghini have described it as a SSUV or Super Sports Utility Vehicle filled with Lamborghini DNA and if you see how light and fast it is, it’s easy to see why.

This is a very important launch for Lamborghini as it’s not only a very different car from what you’re used to seeing wearing the raging bull badge but it’s also turbo charged. While the world has gone turbo, Lamborghini have always been associated with naturally aspirated engines. That said, this plant brings the power in the form of a 4.0L V8 Twin Turbo delivering 478kW and 850Nm and will get you too 100km/h in 3.6 seconds.

Statistics aside, what is it like? It’s not as big as I’d imagined. Definitely larger than the original concept but that’s a good thing as it does not appear bulky at all and definitely carries the Lamborghini design language with the sharp edges and defined lines. Inside is very comfortable, modern and luxurious and whether you’re changing options on the Tamburo (their name for the drive controller or switching through the options on the digital instrument cluster, it all has a clean and premium feel. That combined with the Lamborghini design elements and it looks like a winner.

The big question is, how is it to sit in the back. The headroom is sufficient and the individual seats really give you that luxurious and comfortable feeling. The touch screens will definitely keep passengers in the rear entertained. The cabin is leather clad and the sitting inside doesn’t make you feel like you’re in an SUV or SSUV in the case of the Lamborghini Urus.

I’m keen to drive it to share more of my thoughts but form what I’ve heard, it definitely sounds the part. The Lamborghini Urus will officially be in Australia later this year and start at $390,000. For those wanting a little extra, there’s the Ad Persona program where you can further customize your car.
